The season of love is officially here! Or is it another masterstroke in the world of capitalism?
If you’ve been seeing V Day advertisements this month, that makes two of us.
We’re the target consumers of this glorious offer-filled week.
Or are we merely purchasing love in the form of durable products?
Does one need to be showered with gifts in order to be loved?
Have you wondered how something pure like love can be a casualty of capitalism, just like every festival celebrated?
Aasmaan hai neela kyon? Paani geela geela kyon? Gol kyon hai zameen?
By the end of this blog, all these intrusive questions will be answered. All we’ll say is keep reading.
If you ask these questions to someone who’s not hit by the cupid, they’ll tell you how they strongly believe capitalism has ruined the purity of love. How there’s no longer the need to hand-write letters, hold hands, lazily stroll through country roads and spend time star-gazing at the beach.
However, a person who’s got cupid by their side will move mountains for their loved one. Being a casualty of capitalism is not seen as being a victim in this case. Rather it’s regarded as an act of being a martyr of love. And as the saying goes,”Love always wins”.
But, sacrificing your own needs to satisfy the needs of the other is what love truly is.
It can be as simple as a mother giving her portion of food to her children, a father buying new shoes for his kids while wearing worn out ones himself or a coworker saving you their dabba cause they know how much you love that aloo ka paratha.
Small, candid acts are where the actual beauty of love lies.
Not in the grand gestures of fireworks (unless it’s your wedding)
As far as capitalism goes, well, you’re safe from the tempting discounts if your “add to cart” game is negatively strong enough. Yes, we made you read it twice. Haha!
So even though Valentines and Capitalism share 10 letters, it depends on the situation for them to be related. If it’s sacrifice, it can be ruled out as love. If it’s a random grand gesture, can it still be ruled out as the same?
Baaki, aasmaan hai neela kyon? Paani geela geela kyon? Gol kyon hai zameen?
Sirf Farhan Akhtar aur Google hi bata sakte hai, hehehe
