If you aren’t of Indian origin, you’ll find Karwa Chauth to be a flabbergasting festival.
Traditionally, on this day married and unmarried women observe a fast for the longevity of their husband/man’s life.
The fast is kept from midnight to moon-rise without any eatables and drinkables, and is regarded as an expression of love.
Mostly followed by Northern and Western India, Karwa Chauth is renowned and celebrated amongst the whole of Indian diaspora.
Spending hours fasting and praying for your counterpart’s long life is ended by sighting the moon.
Upon seeing the moon, the counterparts make their women drink water thereby breaking the fast.
