Behold! Aala re aala! Bappa aala!
Bappa is here!
Do you notice the streets decorated with lights? And temporary pandals built at every corner of the streets? That’s right! Ganpati Bappa is officially here for the next ten MOST LIVELY days of the year.
Started by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak as a public celebration under British rule, this celebration has become a symbol of Vighna-harta (destroyer of obstacles) in the modern day. It is said that freedom fighter Tilak started this as a way of socially getting people together cleverly from under the British dog-watchers.
It has evolved to be one of the most energetically celebrated festivals in every corner of India and diaspora of the world. Rhythmic sync created by the dhol is enough indicator of the arrival and departure of these ten days.
Lord Ganesha and Mushak ji are both devoted with utmost affection and care but what makes Lord Ganesha stand out is his unique ability of miraculously solving every problem faced by humans.
Ganesh Chaturthi is therefore seen as a period of fasting, devoting, singing bhajans, preparing and distributing His favourite sweet ‘Modak’ and relieving yourself by passing all your obstacles to Him.
Do your best while He looks after the rest.
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!
