Did you spot a crescent moon the previous night?
Us too!
Chand Raat - the night the crescent moon is sighted marks the end of Ramzan and the beginning of cheerful celebrations of Eid ul fitr.
Eid is celebrated by the followers of Islam all over the world. It is the day of celebration which follows 30 days of roza (fasts) that mark the month of Ramzan.
These 30 days of fasts are observed by:
Praying five times a day
Fasting from dawn to sunset
Collecting Zakat (charity) for the under-previlegded and poor
Refraining from evil thoughts, deeds and speech
Not consuming intoxicating substances
This practice is encouraged amongst followers of Islam and with good reason. It allows for self introspection - a journey that often leads to greater control over mind, body and soul.
Eid ul Fitr is celebrated by serving sheer khurma on the day - a traditional sweet treat, which is soulfully prepared by every Islamic household. People are seen in magnificent clothing, some even decorate their hands with intricate designs of henna.
OurDesk wishes everyone a happy Eid ul Fitr.
