Today, we commemorate the birth of Lord Buddha.
The son of Maya Devi and King Suddhodana, he was known as Siddharta Gautam until he attained enlightenment. And thereafter as Gautam Buddha.
Born into a princely family, Siddharta lived the majority of his life within the walls of the palace. In this world, he was guarded against social evils like hunger, poverty, disease, loneliness and pain.
Once, upon venturing outside, he saw an old man, a sick man, and a corpse. This incident exposed him to the harsher realities of life and it turned out to be a pivotal moment in his spiritual journey.
Today, we remember Gautam Buddha as the founder of Buddhism and the enlightened one. His journey and life serve as an example of what it means to live righteously, even amidst suffering.
On his birth anniversary, we pay a tribute to Lord Buddha and his teachings.
