In the spontaneous world of this Mayanagri called Mumbai, local trains are our savior and metros are our rescuers. Stairway to Heaven sounds nice, right? That’s exactly how it feels when you manage to get a seat in an ever-crowded Mumbai Local. Or even in a metro or BEST Bus for that matter. Yeh train hi hamari pehchaan hai, iske bina hum adhoore hai. The love we have for our trains is much more than our love for our loved ones. Because people might not always be there for you, but a Mumbai Local will be.
We live fast and die young, chasing our dreams
A local is not just a train, it’s a vehicle for fulfilling our aspirations. When a person boards a local amongst others harshly pushing each other to do the same, they swim in a sea full of people who are filled with passion to reach their destinations. For some, the destination is to be on time for work. For some, it is, another day the same hustle till they follow their actual goal. For some, it’s getting that daily bread to survive. Special mentions to our beloved Dabbawalas who make sure to deliver warm food from a person's home to their workplace with total punctuality of time, every day without any misplacement.
But a Local isn’t just a mere means of travel, it is an in-motion place where people happen to form bonds. Be it a bond of just an understanding eye contact conveying “Aapke baad main yaha baithungi” or exchanging bits and pieces of random things via small talk. Do these features ring a bell? Yep, they’re similar to that of a coworking space. Another crazy similarity is that Mumbai Local’s got employees too. Nahi samjha? Hold up.
We’re sure you’ve seen people sell earrings, necklaces, bangles, fruits, bags, earphones, hair accessories, and whatnot! Have you connected the dots yet? We’ll do it for you. At the end of the day, coworkers also work day in and out to sell their products/services. They also work independently but in unison so as to give and take random info. A Local is a co-transportation and its passengers are the co-workers, if we may. It’s okay to be awestruck, we’re processing this analogy too. Who knew there’d be an instance where Mumbai Local is compared to a coworking space?
We’re always in a hurry to get somewhere just like ideas flowing through your mind while working at a coworking.. And it’s all so rapid. All so quick. The thoughts, the local, the ambitions, the tension. And if you add a dash of music and sprinkle it with people standing with their sweaty backs touching each other, you get a sample shot of creativity flowing through. Visually not so appealing but such is life when there are little rewards and a lot more struggle. Yahi toh hai Mumbai meri jaan!
