With lively sparks of festive spirit engulfing the cheerful premises of OurDesk even still, here’s us showcasing the wonderful manner in which Diwali fortnight was rejoicefully celebrated. The diwali look of our coworking space was just as beautiful as our members, each stair covered in small rangolis at each end. Each door studded with garlands and the centre of the hallway topped with a lavish lantern. We started off with welcoming our members by handing them diyas made with earthy clay and all things good, these diyas consisted of vibrant colours of yellow, green, purple, orange and white.
This little but lit gathering was organised in the midst of the seminar room which is a part of our Zone 3. A brass-like coloured idol of Lord Ganesha was placed towards the left upon entering the seminar room, because no occasion is complete without his presence. The vighnaharta was dazzled with bright lights along with a genda phool in one hand and a small sweet in another. And the wall behind was decorated with tensils made of thread and studded with mirrors and bright orange and yellow genda phools. Where else would you witness diwali as grand as this? Only in OurDesk in Khar, Mumbai.
All our ethnically dressed members lit their diyas and placed them gracefully on a table kept next to Lord Ganesha’s idol. This table was covered with a white cloth which was decorated with green leaves of mango, white rice and colourful flowers. After everyone was done lighting their diyas and seeking blessings of the mangalmurti, we proceeded into our next segment of events lined up for the day. A round of cube shaped sweets was passed along to all the members which was unlimited throughout. Keeping in mind all “gluten-free” and “sugar-free” intake nowadays, we made sure the sweets were made of dates and dry fruits only.
After this, we conducted a lucky draw for which a bowl of blue token chits was passed around. Each member was to pick out a chit and keep it to themself. These chits were numbered from 1 to 18.Now to call out the lucky draw winners, each member was randomly asked to pick out pink chits from the lucky-draw jar. These chits were also numbered from 1 to 18, however, there were only fourteen of the pink chits whereas the blue ones distributed to the members were eighteen. That's the catch! Pink chits when called out with the number written in it should match one of the blue chits and if that’s the case, the person with the blue chit has to come forward to receive a surprise gift in store for them.
It’s not as easy to get the box of gift as it seems though, the said person had to pick out a yellow/white chit from a third bowl of quirky and playful chits. To avail the gift in front of them. They must answer or do whatever is asked of them in the mystery chit of tasks. We bet, by now you can tell the amount of love we hold for our chits. Be it Coworking Day or Dussehra or Diwali, chits always have to make a cameo appearance. Unfortunate were the remaining four members that didn’t win the lucky draw but lucky for them we had consolation gifts assembled for them all.
The consolation consisted of two golden bowls painted in the centre with a thin layer of silver and two golden spoons. We bid our members adieu until the next awaited gathering since it was a working day for us all. To summarise, games were played, music was played, laughter was doubled than regular, celebrations were traditionally done and the faces were all shades of happiness and lights.
