Coworking vs. Traditional Offices: Choosing the Right Workspace for Your Business

There are as many types of business models as there are types of business, each of them showcasing distinguishing traits of its own. What are these business models?

In simple words, a business model refers to a type of business conducted in order to earn profit. This model describes the way a business will take its product, offer it to the market, and drive sales.

OurDesk, Khar, Bandra, Mumbai, coworking space, coworking, networking, community building, business model, types of business, traditional office,
Represented above are key factors needed for a business model to excel

A business model determines:

  • what products make sense for a company to sell

  • how it wants to promote its products

  • what type of people it d try to cater to

  • and what revenue streams it may expect.

Types of Business Models:

Retailer- Retail traders are responsible for selling the end product to customers. They usually operate by selling individual products as required rather than selling in confined bulk like wholesalers. They require quite a chunk of space to store their inventories which may not be ideal to be operated from a coworking space, since a coworking space is not a perfect cut-out to stock-up inventories.

Manufacturer- Manufacturing products is done at an industrial setup. Hence why it falls under the category of not being an ideal business model for a coworking space.

Fee-for-Service- A fee-for-service business model may charge by an hourly rate or a fixed cost for a specific agreement. These companies are often specialised, offering insight that may not be common knowledge or may require specific training.

Such a business model includes consultancies offering services in aspects of Real Estate, Chartered Accounting, Certified Financial Analysts, Marketing and PR agencies and so on. A Coworking Space is just as ideal for this model as a traditional office.

However, coworking proves to be a better option of the two since it doesn’t block any capital regarding down payment like with a traditional office.

Fascinatingly enough, a Coworking Space itself can be considered as a Fee-for-Service type of Business Model.

Subscription-  They are mostly a software based product/service that try to attract clients in the hopes of luring them into long-time customers. This is done by offering a product that requires ongoing payment, usually in return for a fixed duration of benefit.

Though largely offered by digital companies for access to software, subscription business models are also popular for physical goods such as monthly recurring agriculture/produce subscription box deliveries.

Again, a coworking space and traditional office are both suitable for this since the work-staff require proper internet access and devices to carry on their activities. However, blockage of capital redirects people to pick a coworking space.

Did you know? Uber, Spotify, Instagram and others were founded at a coworking space.

Conclusion:

Working from a designated office can get monotonous after a while whereas working from a coworking space keeps one on their toes. There’s always something new to explore, out of the workstation. A new face to talk with, a new place to visit within and around your workplace. It’s a breath of fresh air waiting to be inhaled by the respiratory system of coworkers.

And we at OurDesk strive to provide nothing but an experience as refreshing and comforting as taking a breath of fresh air after reaching the top of a mountain while on a trek.
