This day, we commemorate the birth of an eternal soul that continues to guide us in all our day to day activities by speaking to our heart and becoming our inner voice. Let the light be brighter, the breeze be cooler and the good be better because the day of 23rd November is definitely a special one. Late Daadi Pushpa Devdas Advani was born in Dalipota (present day Sindh, Pakistan) 91 years ago today and since then her benevolent glory is remembered and recognized till date. She was born to the then Magistrate Sai Khiyoomal Sadhwani.
Known for her keen spiritual inclination from the sweet age of sixteen she transcended to become a ‘shishya’ disciple of Mataji Rampiyaribai Sahib in Mumbai (then Bombay) (after partition). Mataji Sahib attained sainthood under the guidance of her guru Sant Vishwanandji Maharaj Sindhuware Shikarpuri after renouncing the world and its affairs. This is where the roots of roots of Mataji Rampiyaribai Trust we’re born, and the seeds of service of the community were sown eventually forming a strong foundation of strong values, knowledge and light of god.
The very building and premises that we work in today was initially a ‘Darbar’ built on 5th Road of Khar, Mumbai in the majestic glory of Mataji Sahib where several socio-religious activities take place to date. The first floor of Mataji Darbar which was previously utilised as a banquet hall was converted to a coworking space. This newly renovated clean, comfortable, cost/effective coworking space was named OurDesk and inaugurated on 24 May 2023 with the objective of providing the community a place where they can study, work and thrive. She was also an excellent columnist having written various articles on Mataji and her “Griha-vachan” for over 25 years in the Hindvasi Newspaper.
Tales of her fiercely standing up for rights of the Sindhi Community are known far and wide across our nation and the globe. Being a Grihasta (home-maker) married to Shrimaan Devi-Dayal Jamatrai Advani and being blessed with three children didn't stop her from providing service in form of Seva-bhav towards Mataji Sahib and the community. Today her fruitful family tree of children and grandchildren carry the legacy of her teachings and the ‘Darbar’ under the not-for-profit organisation of Mataji Rampiyaribai Trust.
Daadi Pushpa Advani had fought righteously alongside various political organisations to successfully challenge a petition filed for removal of the word “Sindh” from India’s National Anthem along with taking strong initiatives including the Sindhi Language in academic curriculums. She also fought against illegal eviction of Sindhi residents from Ulhasnagar, successfully. The endeavour of her life was in pursuit of unity and identity for the Sindhi community. This pursuit ended in the successful launch of her dream project Jhulelal Tirath Dham (JTD).
