Problems, life is full of it. Another crisis begins just as the earlier one is averted. And boy do we try hard for an issue to not get escalated but alas life’s got other plans. They say a stitch in time saves nine but a problem tends to arise when that nine turns into a 9 to 5.
The hours that a person works for are directly proportional to the number of problems they solve within those hours. For instance, take a Chartered Accountant, their hours are proportional to the number of costs that are unaccounted for while recording all the transactions and expenses. Similarly, a Graphic Designer’s hours are proportional to the amount of changes they make while creating a design from scratch. However, this applies to freelancers.
Today we’re going to unleash the infamously famous story of corporate life. Beginning with the pyramid of top, middle, and lower level of management; to mildly put…there’s inconvenience in all three of them. Top-level management employees are the Board of Directors, Managing Directors, CEOs, CTOs, CFOs etc. They make all necessary business decisions which are to be followed by the middle and lower levels of the pyramid. They are more or less the faces of the brand for eg. Sundar Pichai- CEO of Google, Salil Parekh- CEO of Infosys and Mukesh Ambani- Managing Director of Reliance. These big guys are the engine of a car. Without their expertise and supervision, it’s a long long drive. Their work hours equal the rational decisions they make, keeping in mind all the ins and outs of the business.
Whereas the middle level of the management is the fuel needed to run a car. Without them, the chain of communication between the top and lower levels is all haywire. They bridge the gap between the other two levels. Mostly all senior, executive, and associate positions operate at this level, Human Resources, IT, Finance, and Marketing being well known for it among other departments. They’re the driving force of their companies. There aren't really any examples of them since they’re more in number compared to the top-level employees but their efforts are recognized and rewarded nonetheless. Their hours of work equal the work they’re getting done from the teams of people under them whilst passing on messages from the top level.
The wheels of a car form the lower level of management. This is not because wheels are the lowest part of a car but because without wheels a car simply cannot be driven, be it an electric car or a fueled one. They take care of all the minute tasks assigned to them by the middle level which are addressed by the top level. That’s how the flow of work works. Although suggestions of lower and middle level are all welcome by the top level for improvement and smooth running of their respective companies both internally with the employees and externally with the customers Their work hours equal the of how efficient they are when it comes to completing their tasks on time with minimal issues here and there.
9 To 5: Problem Or Clock Of Unity?
Be it top, middle, or lower, the degree of their work has vast differences but they’re all united by the clock that punctually ticks every second from 9 to 5. Hence, in a way the cycle of 9 to 5 is full of problems for each one but that’s what unites them all into working together. So to answer the question, if 9 to 5 is a problem or clock of unity…it’s both. They go hand in hand. Each person is out averting their problems at different levels whilst on the mission of achieving the same goal.
Our thoughts? Why not have moments of a few hearty laughs, occasional interactions with each other, and engaging in community festivities every now and then?
